About sarahjgittins

Sarah Gittins is a visual artist working across a variety of media, with a particular focus on drawing, printmaking and painting. Her work explores issues of social and ecological justice, with a current emphasis on the embodied awareness of climate change. Her most recent drawings and prints create a space where the ordinary activities of everyday life encounter incidents of environmental concern, thus allowing the viewer to reflect on issues often pushed to the edges of consciousness. This is an evolving project - to be continued as artist in residence at the Dundee Botanical Garden - creating an ecosystem of images, highlighting some of the interrelating aspects of our present times. Sarah is interested in the capacity of image-making to enable engagement, conversation and action for change. Her work draws particular inspiration from the ecological philosopher Joanna Macy and the artists of the Taller de Grafica Popular, a collaborative Mexican printmaking studio established in 1937.
